why are people always talking about/ having sex?

Let me preface by saying that I'm not a virgin. I had sex once two years ago with someone I loved but I absolutely hated the whole act. I'm not sure why people have sex so much or why they always want it, especially some girls.

Can someone explain the appeal? I can have a better time going solo.
